Silver Service innovation gets Castrol up in downtime

Castrol lubricants was acquired by BP in 2002. Arguably the world’s leading brand in motor oil, BP Castrol also make lubricants for every conceivable application on land, sea and in the air.

The BP Castrol brand is associated with performance and speed, values which flow through their fully networked Spotswood packaging facility where Citect SCADA and Allen Bradley PLCs, support various fillers, palletisers and process equipment to package lubricant. 

Solution

SAGE Service has been supporting BP Castrol for more than five years.

SAGE currently supports BP Castrol with a permanent Service Technician, embedded within their team for 2 weeks per month. Familiar with their plant and equipment, the Service Technician provides the following support services:

• Maintenance
• 24/7 Breakdown support
• Safety audits and upgrades
• CAD Drawing updates
• SCADA upgrades
• Control system back ups
• Minor project work
• Monthly report detailing faults for the month and actions that could be taken to prevent reoccurrence
• Yearly report

Outcome

The ongoing SLA allocated technician for regular site maintenance, back ups, drawing and safety updates means Castrol can focus on production while SAGE handles maintenance. This arrangement has seen Castrol quickly recover up from breakdowns, saving considerable downtime and costs.

Castrol Engineering Manager Nik Mastilovich explains, "SAGE commit and stick with us until the problem is solved, no matter what time of day or night, have the capacity to mobilise a specialised team to support us and bring knowledge and a solid supplier network to our operation.

Recently, a breakdown occurred and replacement parts were weeks away. SAGE set to work to find an alternative solution and their innovation had us up and running again, saving us considerable downtime and costs," he said.
