Kym Bennie
As a Senior Projects Engineer, Kym is directly responsible for the engineering solutions, budgeting, management and delivery for a variety of projects throughout Whyalla and the Eyre Peninsula.
Kym has over 12 years of experience in the management and delivery of complex electrical installations and control systems in many different industries and market sectors. Kym is based in SAGE’s Whyalla office, where he has been involved in Mining, Manufacturing, Heavy Industrial Solutions, Utilities and Infrastructure projects.
Local knowledge, specialist expertise
Joining SAGE as a graduate engineer in 2008, Kym’s local knowledge of the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region means he understands the unique challenges, as well as the opportunities for improving your business.
After a period with SAGE in the Northern Territory branch and returning to Whyalla in 2019, Kym brings a wealth of experience with control system modifications and upgrades for major energy and water projects, working as the project manager and technical lead. Kym’s extensive project experience also extends to resources, infrastructure and general manufacturing sectors.

1. Whyalla, SA: Liberty GFG steelworks
SAGE has undertaken various projects and ongoing service support for Whyalla’s iconic steel works, since 2000.
2. Ceduna, SA: Automated road-side signage solution
SAGE designed and delivered an automated signage solution for the remote Ceduna and Yamba fruit fly and weigh stations, to provide efficiency to the weigh station’s operation and flexibility to expand the system with additional signage in the future.
3. Moorook to Swan Reach: SAPLC upgrade
PLC installation across 10 regional Water Treatment plants in regional communities from Moorook to Swan Reach receive their water from local Water Treatment Plants (WTP) which take water from the River Murray and process it into clean, safe drinking water.
4. Mount Gambier, SA: Timber mill
SAGE completed multiple projects involving design, manufacture, installation and commissioning for chipper canter controls and motion control systems, as well as twin band saw electrical and control system upgrades.
5. Coonawarra, SA: Automation system upgrade
SAGE has worked with a local winery for a number of years, recent work includes delivering an automation system upgrade for the winery’s sweeping arm fermenters, implementation of Ignition SCADA and a refrigeration control system upgrade.
6. Multiple locations, SA: Bulk Grain Handling
Turnkey electrical upgrades to Viterra’s bulk grain storage and handling facilities at Gladstone, Tailem Bend, Crystal Brook and Port Lincoln.
7. Port Augusta, SA: Solar powered greenhouse
Design and construction of the heliostat power distribution and communication enclosure for the innovative solar powered Sundrop Farms greenhouse.
8. Mildura, VIC
Electrical rebuild of the Mildura Fruit Juices Australia crushing and processing plant following a fire.
9. Lara, VIC: Explosives Manufacturing Facility
SAGE delivered the controls and automation for Chemring Australia, the first countermeasures manufacturing plant in the southern hemisphere.
10. Warnambool, VIC
Automation for Warrnambool Cheese and Butter’s new dairy processing facility.
